I've just sent my Camlynx back. When shooting indoors and line of sight within 2 meters of the camera I experienced drop outs if the camera tilted down or the cameramans arm got between the tx and rx aerials. Outside within 1 meter I experienced the same. Much of my work is wirth hand held moving cameras when a wireless link is most needed - if the camera is stationary I'll cable so don't need a link. I can't risk missing the audio if the camera is moving - that's my reputation.
I'm very disappointed in the Camlynx and received an acknowledgement from them that there are severe limitations that they're trying to address. I wish that was in their promotional material.
Thank you for posting this real world experience with the Camlynx product. The hype surrounding this product when first shown at NAB (maybe 2 or 3 years ago) was very interesting, but the promises seemed to be too good to be true. Evidently, this is the case. Many of us predicted limited success with this technology but were willing to give benefit of the doubt. I think I always thought that it would work well for short hop to camera that was close by, situations where you would normally cable but with the Camlynx you wouldn't have to. This is exactly the use that you put it to and unfortunately the results seem to be quite disappointing.
I've bought a Zaxcom 900 syestem and it's brilliant. Great range and great audio quality. I've even successfully used the TRX900 as a field recorder and , although it's a little fiddly to use, the recording quality is superb. It's a fantastic bit of kit and I recommend it.
