Very informative and worth a listen. Also confirms my belief that you should treat any Red Camera shoot like a Film shoot and always Double System Record as the Primary Sound Source.
Agreed. I've done several RED shoots lately and I tell the director/camera op that anything I feed them back is for reference/off-line editorial only. They must go back to the files I record and sync select audio.
One thing to note: this podcast was done when the audio build was v17. It is now v.20. There have been major improvements since then (major for the Red that is - audio on the Red is still in its infancy). The audio section of REDUSER.net has all the latest info about what's going on with the newest board.
I've done a few Red shoots now, last one was a low budget film with two reds on set. I'm glad I did run a dual system after listening to the podcast lol. At the time of the shoot though both reds had a newer version software, not sure about hardware, but there wasn't many problems with audio playback from the dailies. They were using the the mix from the Red's drive straight to their FCP editor with no hitches. Didn't have a good TC generator for this shoot, so I made sure the slate was always used, they hated me for reminding them every 5 minutes.
Just wanted to add to this. Just got done with first week of shooting with 2 RED's using my 702T as master clock (free run) and jaming both RED's with Ambient ACL 202CT's. These worked great, locking up the footage in post was a snap.
