Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting some more Lectrosonic IFBs, I already have 9 units in Block 30.
My question is, are there any blocks to be totally avoided? I mainly work in Sydney. Thanks. Skeet.
Rob I think range may be an issue with a Bluetooth IFB . When I spoke to Rick a year ago he was guaranteeing a 10 meter range for his prototype Camlynx. Great for most field applications especially ENG but not really adequate for IFB applications.
I tried your trick with the darts last night. Not having any red wine at hand, I substituted a bottle of Jack Daniels No. 7
To cut a long story short… the dart ended up imbedded in the wife’s ear.
Which Block does that equate to? In MHz please?
Thanks to your invaluable advice, the wife has kicked me out and I’m now living down in the cold of my ‘dungeon’. If I catch the ‘flu and die, I’ll hold you personally responsible!
Peter G,
your right about Bluetooth range being poor. The other issue is the delay. I'm positive Ric Creaser's bluetooth uses a much more sophisticated system etc but regular bluetooth has a slight delay and noticeable enough to do your head in.
I used a Sony A2DP bluetooth transmitter and Sony bluetooth headphones for producer monitoring until I got my Lectro IFB's.
The range was pretty ordinary. The spec said 10 metres but in the field it was no where near that. Maybe 5 at the max. It didn't really matter on that particular shoot but when I gave the same producer my Lectro when it arrived, he loved it and said he could hear even when he was in another room or around the corner or whatever. Range would definately be a problem on a film or commercial set with blutooth.
I now use my Sony bluetooth for my laptop or watching TV. Its actually a pretty good little set up for domestic use. The nice thing is the headphones have no cables, which the producer liked.
I've attached photos of transmitter and headphones.
